"In order to go on living one must try to escape the death involved in perfectionism." -Hannah Arendt
Happiness and perfectionism rarely see eye-to-eye. For perfect is rare, and fleeting if achieved at all. Therefore setting expectations so high (at the perfect level) so as to make them unrealistic can lead to never-ending frustrations, which can be demoralizing or paralyzing that in turn lead to procrastination. Perfectionists often postpone starting anything or never finish what is started for fear of failure.
So let us not strive to be perfect, being competent is enough. Superior results at the level of "excellent" or "very good" is good enough if the goal is to live a happy life.
"The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection." -George Orwell
