Often (mistakenly) attributed to St. Francis of Assisi , the Serenity Prayer was derived from an untitled prayer written by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. The current most popular form of this prayer is as follows:
God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things that I can;
And the wisdom to know the difference.*
Learning and living these words would help us find joy and contentment. So by reciting it often, we remind ourselves of how it is to be at peace with ourselves and the world around us. Therefore, memorize and learn it by heart.
