If we keep our eyes on our neighbor’s dwellings, we often see things that we don’t have or we start comparing and then conclude that theirs is better. This is human nature, the basis of the adage “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.” When we fail to appreciate what we do have, we cease to enjoy it and instead keep longing for what we don’t have.
For a change, make a list of what you freely enjoy everyday: your family’s good health, your children’s warm embrace, your roof that keeps you warm and dry, and so on. You’ll be surprised that the list is never-ending (or at least quite long). Do this exercise daily and feel very blessed. Remember that your neighbor’s green grass is theirs as well as the dirt hidden from your sight. So mind your own grass (and dirt) and be happy!
